President – Nick D’Orazio (4th year – Filmmaking Practices): I love people and will play video games with literally just about anyone. On a film set, you can either find me producing or yelling at people to work harder. I love the social aspect of filmmaking and the chaos that sometimes finds its way onto a film set: It makes every day an adventure! I am in love with Jackie Chan and post-production. I want to work creatively and on my feet, so I study film at ASU.
Vice President – Matt Hemenway (4th year – Film and Media Production): I’m a senior film student with minors in business and art history. I grew up on a farm in South Dakota, but after years pursuing music, art, and theater in high school, I decided to go to college to build on those foundations and study film in college. My focus is on directing and writing, though I’m interested in every aspect of the filmmaking process.
Secretary – Melissa Eva Martinez (3rd year – Film and Media Studies): My name is Melissa and I am the secretary for AFA. Right now, I kind of want to be a producer, but I have not excluded anything yet. I hope to bring organization to the club. I believe making and watching films is an inherently fun experience. Being part of a club based on this experience, I hope to make it just as fun for everyone!
Production Director – Taylor Fenno (4th year – Filmmaking Practices): I am a Senior FPR major, and my focus is cinematography. The beauty of being able to blend artistry and technicality continually propels me in my desire to create images that speak. Understanding the abilities of the tools, enables one to use not only the pros, but also the cons, in giving breath and life to the story we tell. For me, film begins and ends with light, color, and composition. As an AFA officer, I look forward to working with both FMP and FPR majors over the next year.
Events Director – Christopher Gallego (4th year – Film and Media Production): Christopher Gallego is an aspiring writer and producer. His experience in event planning, production, and promotion in the music industry will serve him well as Director of Events for the AFA. Chris’ tenacity and ambition to take projects head-on is balanced by his practical approach and ability to coordinate resources to produce results. Chris plans on providing an engaging and inclusive set of events and activities for AFA members this year to create a more enriching AFA member experience.
Seo-Young Jun (2nd year – Film and Media Production): Hey everyone, my name is Seo-Young Jun, a second-year at ASU freshly entering the Film and Media Production program. Thus, all I have in me at the moment is my pure enthusiasm and passion for filmmaking; from producing to directing to writing, I’d like to do and learn anything and everything related to film. Although I do have the grand facade of a newbie in this world, I do promise that my organization, work ethic, and instinctive craving to have fun with amazing people like you all will provide a great treasurer for this year’s AFA. I look forward to an exciting year with everyone!
Membership Director – Amber Wojcek (4th year – Communications & Film and Media Studies): I’m a senior at ASU studying Communications and Film and Media Studies. When I’m not acting as membership director, I make drinks at Starbucks and make magic at The Disney Store. After graduation I have utterly no idea what I want to do, though something do to with television production or casting would be pretty neat.
Brad Wheeler -
Roland Bayse (1st year – Filmmaking Practices) I’ll be applying to the Film and Media Studies program this semester so I am very busy. Good thing i like to be busy. I am on the ASU Film Association board because I like to be of service and it’s gratifying to know that I have helped others. I’m a screenwriter and director with a varied background in art and service. I strive to write and make film that carries positive life affirming messages about diversity.
Webmaster – Matt Chesin (2nd year – Film and Media Production): I’m a sophomore film student with a minor in digital culture. I have a strong interest in cinematography and being a camera operator. I have worked on several student capstones and professional sets, as camera operator and DP. I enjoy the challenge and excitement of film, and have been fortunate to have worked with many gifted students and professionals. I have web design knowledge and experience and look forward to creating and developing the AFA website.
Intern – Melia Coury (1st yr. Graphic Design (Visual Communication) Hi, my name is Melia Coury and I am a new graphic designer joining AFA. Acting has been a part of me since I was very young. I fell in love with the subtleties of film acting. Performing is my passion in life. Therefore I am thrilled to be able to act and design all in one place.
Intern – James Hanlon (1st year – Philosophy & Film and Media Studies) I have been very passionate about movies as far back as I can remember. I am inspired by what the movies can teach us and continually awed by the power of metaphor, imagination, and the important role stories play in our lives. Screenwriting is a main interest, but I’ve done a fair amount of acting and editing as well. I am anxious to learn and contribute as much as I can to the craft while here at ASU by getting involved with the film community. And I am looking serving the AFA as an intern!
Intern - Christopher Brown (1st year – Film and Media Studies) I am a Freshman Filmmaking Practices major with a love of meeting new people and experiencing new things. My interest in film ranges from cinematography to post-production aspects. I hope to utilize my hobby of skateboarding and snowboarding to eventually work for a action sports company traveling around the world filming the most talented riders.
